Welcome to the Rosebriar Shakespeare Company!
the only year-round Shakespeare company in Central Ohio. Congratulations!
Our next production, romeo and juliet, directed
by Steve Emerson features a cast that boasts some Rosebriar
regulars, as well as some new faces with fresh energy: Capitalizing on the success of the
partnership initiated with Taming of the Shrew, Rosebriar Shakespeare
Company is once again teaming up with Groveport Elementary School for the upcoming production
of romeo and juliet. Danielle Mari, Artistic Director, explains
that when given the opportunity to perform again at the school, "We jumped at
the chance. The faculty, staff, and students were so welcoming and so
enthusiastic for Shrew, we knew we wanted to come back."

RSC Teams with Groveport Madison Elementary
Steve
Emerson, Resident Director and newest RSC board member, will not be performing
his adaptation of romeo and juliet in the national historic landmark
Main Street Cruiser Theater this time. Instead, he will take his small
cast and minimal set to the unlikely location of the school's gymnasium.
"We'll transform that space into the different locations- the palaces, the
streets, the church, the apothecary, the tomb, using the actors' physicality
instead of the traditional sets and costumes," says Emerson when describing his
edgy, modernized version of the classic tragedy. "So I didn't want to use
the proscenium. I want the audience to be right there in the action,
intimate."
And this time, RSC will be offering free educational workshops
for Groveport Elementary students that will feature scenes from the play.
Mari adds, "Putting the work in the gym will show the students that any space
can be transformed, that theatre can happen anywhere. Plus, Steve's vision
is so exciting and accessible, I know the students will be able to connect
to it. And the benefits for Rosebriar are obvious. Being able to
form this symbiotic relationship with the school helps fulfill our ongoing
effort to increase our presence as a community educational resource by bringing
the show right into the school. We hope these shows mark the beginning of
a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the Cruiser family.

Taming of the Shrew
Jill Hartley
recommends:
"This is Shakespeare as it should be. Director Danielle
Mari highlights and celebrates Shakespeare's cruder side, allowing the audience
to see the Bard as he should be seen and creating an overall enjoyable
evening... It's worth the drive."

Sean Reid, Esq. reviews:
"Make no mistake,
Rosebriar's Taming of the Shrew offers a night of bawdy fun... bring[ing] a
vivacious energy and enviable talent to the stage... that will have audience
members laughing well after the show has ended."

A Midsummer Night's
Dream
Krista Threadgill praises:
"... the elements of
theater the way Shakespeare himself would have done it come alive... Rosebriar's
long-standing reputation for quality Shakespeare productions still stands with
this family-friendly comedy... this honey of a play." Read the full review

Six
performances... over 320 people... three venues. No matter which way you
cut it, Rosebriar's most recent production ranks as one of our most
successful. Our thanks to the hard working director, cast, and crew.
Another big thanks to the folks who braved mosquitoes, heat, and even a little
rain to catch Shakespeare's most whimsical comedy, A Midsummer Night's
Dream. They witnessed The World's Most Dangerous Fairy Band, magic,
romance, silliness, and one very mischievous puppet.
